Chinuch Office

About Us

The Merkos Chinuch - Education Office is a cohesive center for administrators, educators, students and parents of Chabad-Lubavitch educational institutions.  It provides professional guidance and service to existing Chabad schools.  It assists in the establishment of new schools and provides professional training for educators.  This office coordinateds the activities of the Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch, National Accreditation Board, and the International Board of License.

 

Departments

SCHOOL SERVICES:

*School Information, Statistics and Coordination

The Chinuch Office maintains regular contact with all Chabad schools. It gathers statistics and keeps track of demographic information, and is thus able to coordinate a variety of activities and services.

*School Consultations and  Visitations
 
The Chinuch Office consults with schools across the English speaking world. It provides professional visitations, evaluation and guidance which help schools deal with their challenges and concerns. 

*Personnel Placement

The Chinuch Office offers a series of comprehensive courses in education, through the Machon L'Shlichus.  As it learns of schools' personnel needs, both educational and administrative, it recommends and places personnel from among the Machon graduates.

*Curriculum Library

The Chinuch Office has a library of printed curriculum materials for the benefit of schools and educators.  The library also has a  tape recording collection of many varied educational lectures which educators may borrow and if they so desire, duplicate.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES:

* The Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch International Board of License:

The MLC International Board of License serves as the coordinating and standard-setting body for professional licensing in Chabad–Lubavitch,Yeshivas and Day
Schools. It provides recognition of qualified educators and thus encourages the pursuit of professional training.


*Cooperative Graduate Program with Nova Southeastern University:

The Chinuch Office has developed a cooperative program with NSU to help young educators who wish to advance their professionalism earn a Masters degree in education.

* Teacher Training and In-service workshops

The Chinuch Office offers a variety of educational training opportunities through members of the Chinuch Office staff. They conduct workshops on various occasions and in a variety of venues, during the school year.

* Summer Chinuch Conferences

During the summer months two education conferences are sponsored for men and women respectively. Educators from across the country get together to listen and learn, to participate and discuss, in a collegial atmosphere totally dedicated to Jewish education.


PUBLICATIONS:

* International Schools Directory

The Chinuch office publishes an annual directory of Chabad schools in the English speaking world.

* Educational Pathways: an Education Journal

Professional Jewish educators need to keep current and be aware of new educational research. The Chinuch Office publishes Educational Pathways, a journal of Jewish education, which examines current thinking as it applies to Torah educators.


* Curriculum Materials

The Chinuch Office publishes curriculum material written by and for educators in Chabad schools. It publishes curriculum guides and other curriculum materials.

MERKOS NATIONAL ACCREDITATION BOARD:

*Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Schools Accreditation:

The Merkos Chinuch Office has developed the first and only national Jewish accreditation association, the National Accreditation Board of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch, which is approved by the National Council for Private School Accreditation, NCPSA and its international counterpart the Committee of International Trans-regional Accreditation, CITA.

* Cooperative Accreditation with NCPSA and CITA

NABMLC's membership in NCPSA and CITA means mutual recognition of accreditation processes. Thus, through one accreditation process a school may achieve accreditation from Merkos, one of the regional accreditation agencies and from CITA.

NEW SCHOOLS:

* New Early Childhood programs assistance

Early Childhood educational centers provide an opportunity to impact young parents and their children. The Chinuch Office helps Shluchim in the creation of new Early Childhood programs in a variety of ways, from setup and organization to curriculum planning.

* New elementary, vocational and yeshiva high schools assistance

The Chinuch Office assists communities which seek to open new Jewish day schools with; advice, personnel placement, curriculum development and eventually with accreditation.

Additionally, the Chinuch Office assists a number of alternative yeshiva high schools which have recently been opened, to make yeshiva education accessible to all Jewish students.
